thank you for your support...but it seems we are not done yet!
August 10th, 2024:
seems like this is the annual update. but how could that be? if you recall, Intel said they would be complete with their work by 2024. yet, if you were lucky enough to get an update, they buried they would not be complete until 2025! big difference in my opinion. they also blame the heat for the continued fan noise. it’s hot! i do not disagree. however, i would imagine engineers can resolve the issue with the noise as they did before. they are pretty smart, right? or perhaps they were recently “downsized” to increase shareholder value. nonetheless, the noise is relentless, all night and all day. weekend, holiday, rain or shine. the small wall they constructed is no longer adequate for the noise the units are putting out … so time to regroup. but they won’t. why would they? in addition, there is increased construction noise. i wonder if the fan noise has been covering it up? you’ve heard it i’m sure. they start early, you know, because it’s hot. again, i know. but c’mon man, we live here. we are sleeping. we work too right? i’m not saying you can’t start early but how safe is it starting at 2am? it doesn’t seem like this getting the work done any faster since you are delayed. give us a break!

September 2nd, 2023:
hi friends. it has been almost a year since intel completed the noise abatement that made their “temporary” cooling towers less disturbing to the surrounding area. however, since that time, the noise has increased, and i’m sure you have noticed. intel claims this to be due to the unprecedented hot summer temperatures, yet the noise does not decrease when it is cooler out or at night. while we have all certainly suffered this summer, knowing that cooler temps are coming means we get to enjoy our backyards and have the windows open more often is a welcome change. yet, with ongoing construction and cooling tower noise that does not seem as enticing as we hope it would.
if you still are bothered by the noise, tell Intel, tell Chandler, tell your HOA.
some updates from intel below.
September 18th, 2022:
on Monday, September 12th, 2022, Intel notified the surrounding community of adjustments to the operation of their equipment. they were seeking feedback on whether these adjustments addressed the concerns from the noise the facility was generating.
as of today, the operation of the cooling towers is significantly less noticeable. however, please do provide your personal feedback to Intel if you have not found relief from the noise. thank you to everyone who signed the petition and contacted the City, your respective HOAs, and Intel. together your efforts contributed to restoring the peace and quiet of our community.
this site will remain open should changes at Intel occur that impact our community.
thank you to all again!
did you know?
- some properties are as close as 60-feet from property line to the intel property line.
- the city of chandler noise ordinance states that:
Construction work occurring within 500 feet of a residential property may not begin prior to 5:00 AM and may not continue beyond 10:00 PM on weekdays. Notwithstanding the foregoing, construction work shall not begin prior to 7:00 AM and must stop by 7:00 PM on any Saturday, Sunday or holiday. For the purposes of this section, a “residential property” is defined as a lot, parcel or tract of land containing one or more dwelling units, and distance is measured from lot lines with any intervening public right-of-way being included in the measurement.

the story so far
have you been hearing this, all day, all night?
it is coming from intel
What we think we know
- On or about the morning of August 22nd, Intel began the operation of “temporary” cooling towers located near the intersection of Erie St and Rural Rd on the east side of their property.
- The cooling towers are from aggreko, an international vendor providing industrial cooling needs.
- The towers are needed as Intel is upgrading the primary cooling towers on the campus.
- According to Intel, the upgrade will be complete in 2024!
- The towers run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- The towers have variable fans making it impossible to ignore the noise.
- The towers operate intermittently, cycling from off to high.
- The units are roughly the size of a semi-truck trailer and utilize fans to cool a liquid (?) process at Intel.
- From where the towers are installed on Intel’s property, nothing stands in the way to break up or deflect the sound from the Carrillo Ranch and Wildtree neighborhoods. There is only a parking lot, a dirt area, and Rural Rd.
- Intel has not installed any noise attenuation; if it has, it is woefully inadequate.
- Intel has not performed a noise study; however, it is promising to do one now.
